Death from heart disease is largely preventable, if diagnosis and treatment are begun early enough. Considering that nearly 60 million Americans already have one or more cardiovascular disorders and more than half the population is at risk, the number of lives that would be saved by a routine visit to a cardiologist is staggering.

The Heart Institute’s medical cardiology team specializes in the prevention, detection and treatment of heart disease. The team members have been pioneers of many clinical programs, including the use of Positron Emission Tomography for the most accurate diagnosis of coronary disease and the Planetree model of humanistic inpatient care.

Considered the first line of defense for cardiac disease, consultative and medical cardiology encompasses diagnostic and treatment capabilities, prevention regimens, heart disease medications and cardiac rehabilitation. The Heart Institute offers such noninvasive cardiac diagnostic testing procedures as electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) and stress testing, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and Positron Emission Tomography.
