New Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories Appointed at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center

James Wilentz, MD, has been appointed Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Interventional Cardiology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center. He will focus his talents to improve capabilities and efficiencies within the laboratories, accelerate the introduction of advanced catheter techniques, place SLR at the forefront of coronary and peripheral intervention, and spearhead development of new relationships with clinical and invasive cardiologists in the community.

Dr. Wilentz is a graduate of New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at Brigham Hospital in Boston. He performed a cardiology fellowship at Boston University and an interventional cardiology fellowship at Emory University with Andreas Gruentzig, MD, the father of coronary angioplasty. He also has received advanced training in peripheral vascular intervention in France.

After completing his formal training, he was appointed to the staff at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was Director of Teaching of Invasive Cardiology and Assistant Director of Interventional Cardiology. In 1993, he moved to Beth Israel Medical Center where he was appointed Director of Interventional Cardiology.

Dr. Wilentz’s academic interests lie in the development of advanced technology for performance of interventional procedures in the coronary, carotid and peripheral circulations.
